Cataract Gorge Tour

Walk across the Alexandra Bridge, Cataract Gorge, Launceston

This tour is a 2.5 hour experience in the Cataract Gorge's iconic First Basin and Picnic Grounds. Starting from the Basin Cottage you will be guided through the area and shown Aboriginal bush foods/resources that are in abundance.

You will also hear about 38 000 year old Aboriginal history of Tasmania and the deep cultural connections to the Gorge.  You will have the opportunity to see some of the implements used by Aboriginal people and other items of interest.

As you pass through the First Basin and over to the Picnic grounds you will have the opportunity to find out about its history and development and some of the fascinating details of Launceston's unique heritage. You will have the chance to view old photographs and watch some incredible footage of flood waters raging through the Gorge.

The tour is an easy walk on level ground for the majority of the journey so most suitable for most family groups.

Parking is available in the Launceston City Council's First Basin car park at very reasonable rates.
